Populus tremula L.

In the summer of 1999 I went to eastern Austria to see the August 11th solar eclipse under the path of totality.

This leaf was collected in the woods of Carinthia in the days before the event. I think at the contrast between its vivid colours and the cold darkness experienced under the eclipsed sun: it was even difficult to read the numbers on the shutter of my camera, so I forgot taking photographs and simply enjoyed that wonder.
